Ten Visual Communicators To Follow
Changing the game of how we share and process information, this article gives an overview of ten visual communicators to keep an eye on.
Thinking visually
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But in a society driven by logic, facts, and analysis, it can be easy to overlook the power of a picture. We’re often taught to favour verbal and written communication, meanwhile forgetting that visuals have the potential to convey messages with emotion and creativity.
That’s why today we’re taking a look at our ten favourite accounts who we believe to have mastered the skill of visual communication. And their numbers seem to support this belief, too.
@jaozolins. With illustrations demonstrating the power of adopting the right mindset, Janis Ozolins shows how tiny steps can make a big difference in your day to day experiences.
@visualizevalue. When speaking of making a name for yourself; this account is doing exactly that. By focussing on leveraging opportunity, it showcases how minimal designs can unlock new perspectives.
@howareyou_questionmark. One impossible question and many, many cartoons with answer attempts. Concentrating on exploring emotions and mental health, these seemingly simple drawings invite you to dig deeper.
@researchdoodles. Behaviour can be a tricky thing, so why not simplify it by breaking down data into accessible illustrations. The result? A fresh, visual perspective on how we feel and what we do.
@newyorkercartoons. A collection of illustrations that are guaranteed to leave you with some food for thought, meanwhile bridging the gap between current events, societal issues and drawings.
@quotedvisually. Although it might take a little bit more than a couple of Instagram posts with motivational quotes and daily dilemmas to become self-aware, it’s a great and accessible place to start.
@creativeblok. Most of us will have been there, done that, when it comes to experiencing block. Whether it’s an art block or more so a life one, these innocent drawings show you that you’re not alone.
@lizandmollie. Looking good? Feeling good! From everyday encounters at the workplace to endless loops of overthinking, this aesthetic account is a friendly reminder that we’re all trying our best.
@lianafinck. Nothing says ‘relatable’ quite like this account does. With seemingly minimal drawings, it gives you just the right amount of introspection and self-reflection. Add a pinch of sarcasm to the mix and you’re good to go.
@davidshrigley. Photography, political cartoons and printmaking… David Shrigley is the prime example that visual communication knows many – playful! – faces. Why choose when you can do it all?
Whether you're a designer, coach, teacher, manager, or simply a communication connoisseur, these accounts offer a great deal of inspiration and insight to help you express yourself differently. And more effectively, in our opinion. After all, in a world dominated by words, a picture might just be worth a thousand of them.
Speaking of dominated, in our last article you can read all about left- and right-brain dominance and how (or if?) this influences the way we communicate. Spoiler alert: it takes two to talk. 👯
